BEN'S STORY Thank You, CMC-Pineville and The
Children's Hospital
Our son, Ben, was born at CMC-Pineville. We looked
at area hospitals and none compared to what we found at CMC-Pineville. The
facilities, the services and most importantly the people in and affiliated with
your hospital were better than the others. There was never any doubt in our
minds where we would deliver. And, the night we awoke to find Ben in the midst
of febrile seizures, there was never any doubt as to where the ambulance was
taking him. We were even given a choice of another hospital by the paramedic who
determined Ben needed to be admitted; and, when we said take us to
CMC-Pineville, his answer was a quick and assuring "good choice."
During the night, Ben was under the constant watch of
some of the most capable, compassionate people my wife and I have ever had the
privilege to meet. From the ER at CMC-Pineville and after our transfer to The
Children's Hospital uptown, we knew he was in good care. Ben spent nearly three
days at Carolinas Medical Center. During that time he endured a baby sized
battery of tests. Each time a new test was scheduled, a nurse or doctor would
visit with us beforehand and walk us through the procedure to come. One of those
doctors, Dr. Brent Holway, left an indelible impact on my wife and I.
Ben's last test required he be put to sleep for an hour
or so. Until then, his tests had been pokes and prods that one of us could help
him through. The last one required us to let him go alone with a man we didn't
know. We'd been parents for just 14 months - and none of the prenatal classes,
the magazines, none of the books on what to expect tell you to expect a moment
like that. Had it been anyone other than Dr. Holway, I'm not so sure I'd have
been able to send Ben to radiology alone. His care and concern for us, as well
as for our son, were obvious during his visits to our room and in the detail and
patience with which he explained and performed the next morning's procedure.
From Dr. Holway to the security guard who helped my wife
find the late night entrance for the ER, the staff who served our meals, and the
nurses who took better care of Ben than anyone could, we learned that kindness
and concern for patients are not the exception at CMC, they are the golden rule.
We owe them all a debt we cannot repay and are thankful for their constant good
work.
To say thank you to Dr. Holway and the other doctors and
staff at CMC, we would like to make a gift to Levine Children's Hospital.
Enclosed, please find our check. We also hope that you will consider us friends
of The Children's Hospital and call on us when you need campaign volunteers. We
would be happy to help.
Again, to Dr. Holway, the doctors, nurses and staff at
CMC and The Children's Hospital, we send our warmest regards and most sincere
thanks.
Sincerely, Matt & Kris Honeycutt Fort Mill,
SC
