Carolinas Center for Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders within the Carolinas Medical Center Department of Neurology is dedicated to helping patients with movement disorders maximize their independence and quality of life. The Center offers a comprehensive, team-oriented approach to patient care that includes physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and a dietitian -- all under one roof. Staff from the Center evaluate and treat patients with all movement disorders in a learning environment promoting clinical and basic science research.
Sanjay S. Iyer, MD, Director of Carolinas Center for Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders, and Danielle E. Englert, MD, evaluate and treat patients with all movement disorders in a learning environment that promotes clinical and basic science research.
Sanjay S. Iyer, MD, is the Center's Director. Dr. Iyer is board certified in Neurology and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He continued his education there completing his internship in internal medicine and residency in Neurology. Dr. Iyer served as Chief Resident in Neurology from 2003-04 and served under Kapil Sethi, MD, completing a movement disorders fellowship including both clinical and research experience.
Dr. Iyer's special clinical interests include Deep Brain Stimulation and injecting botulinum toxin for movement disorders and pain. He has participated in many clinical trials and research studies involving Parkinson's Disease and Restless Legs Syndrome.
Danielle E. Englert, MD, earned her medical degree from the University of South Dakota and completed her neurology residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also received her fellowship training in movement disorders at the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Englert is a leader in the field of movement disorders and Parkinson disease, with a special interest in deep brain stimulation.
