Sports Injury Prevention

Carolinas Medical Center's Department of Sports Medicine & Special Events is uniquely placed to provide leadership and guidance for the promotion of lifelong participation in safe physical activity. Through a holistic approach, the department ensures that the general public is aware of the benefits of physical activity and that the risk of losing momentum by doing too much too early or sustaining an injury is prevented.

To keep our youth active and injury free, CMC's Sports Medicine & Special Events Department produces a range of useful resources and a variety of community education programs critical to injury prevention in athletic activity. The department provides support and direction to programs such as the annual Heart of a Champion, Carolinas Sports-Related Concussion Clinic, and Sport-Injury Surveillance to area school and recreational teams.

The department also has available the region's only mobile athletic training vehicle. The vehicle travels to youth sports events throughout North and South Carolina, providing an on-the-scene facility for evaluation and early management of athletic injuries. The unit is ideal for multi-team events or remote areas that do not have medical facilities available.
