Housestaff Benefits

Salary (2008-2009):

  • PGY-1 $45,227
  • PGY-2 $46,365
  • PGY-3 $47,988

Paid Vacation

Ten days (an additional five consecutive days around Christmas or New Year's).

Continuing Education

Five days to attend professional meetings and courses. Continuing education (CE) funds up to $1,900 per year per resident are available to cover registration fees and travel expenses. CE funds can also be used to pay professional dues and purchase approved educational resources such as software and textbooks. A personal digital assistant (PDA) is provided upon entering the residency.

Medical/Dental Insurance

Full medical benefits, including dependent coverage, prescription coverage, and dental insurance.

Professional Liability Insurance

Malpractice insurance coverage provided for all actions occurring while performing residency responsibilities.

Life Insurance

Term life insurance equal to annual salary.

Disability Insurance

Provided after three months of employment when disabled, with a maximum of $3,500 each month based on salary.

Family Leave

Up to six weeks for qualifying circumstances.

Uniforms

Lab coats, surgical scrubs, and laundry service provided.

Meals

Meal allowance provided when on call at night. Lunch provided during noon hour conferences.

Parking

Free reserved parking for residents.

Social Events/Activities

Holiday dance, formal graduation banquet, various departmental activities (e.g., picnics, dinners), and others.
