Brain and Spine Programs

CMC's Department of Neurology leads the region in advanced neurological care with treatment, research, rehabilitation, and specialty options found at only a handful of sites in the country. The Department of Neurology faculty includes highly trained neurologists in a wide range of Neurological subspecialties, housed in three facilities: CMC Neuroscience and Spine Institute, Matthews Neurology and Sleep Center, and University Neurology Center.

CMC Neuroscience and Spine Institute was the first center of its kind in Charlotte, providing multi-disciplinary treatment to brain, spine and nervous system disorders. CMC's Neuroscience and Spine Institute was ranked at the top of comparable neurology centers across the country by the NeuroSource Survey for the last three years.

Neuroscience and Spine Institute physicians include those at Carolinas Neurosurgery and Spine Associates (CNSA), who specialize in a wide range of surgeries, procedures and therapies. The Institute physicians also include faculty of the Department of Neurology who are trained in a wide range of Neurological subspecialties.

The center's Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Program has established aggressive protocols for stroke and cerebrovascular disease management.

The ALS Center is the Southeast's hub of research and treatment for degenerative neuromuscular disease.

The MS Center concentrates on the treatment and management of multiple sclerosis.

The Brain Tumor Program gives full-circle care to those suffering from malignant and benign tumors.

The Carolinas Center for Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders now has a dedicated physician specializing in care for this patient population.
