Those wishing to be considered for the Nurse Anesthesia Program must first meet these requirements:
- Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse. Current license in North Carolina or a compact state for the state identified by faculty before enrollment.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited nursing program with the following academic achievement:
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale).
- A GPA of 3.0 or greater on all completed science courses (biology, anatomy, phyisiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, physics, and microbiology).
- Transcripts of all academic work attempted beyond high school. For specific instructions on submission please click here.
- Satisfactory performance on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE); a score of 950 is preferred (MAT score are not accepted).
- An undergraduate statistics course with a grade of C or greater.
- Three letters of recommendation from persons who know the applicant's professional qualifications, such as clinical manager or supervisor, academic professor, or physician colleague.
- A one-page statement of purpose.
- A minimum of 18 months current full time critical care experience with adult clients prior to matriculation. (See experience requirements below.)
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Computer literacy is required for coursework.
- A personal interview with the clinical program's admission committee.
Experience in the following areas is applicable:
- Adult intensive care unit
- Surgical intensive care unit
- Trauma intensive care unit
- Cardiac intensive care unit
- Neuro intensive care unit
- Cardiovascular recovery unit
Experience in the following area does not apply:
- Post-anesthesia care unit
- Emergency department
- Operating room
- Flight team
- Step-down unit
- Progressive care unit
- Radiology
- Pediatric or neonatal intensive care unit
