The Community Relations Department coordinates Carolinas HealthCare System's involvement in projects that benefit the community. Here is a brief description of some of its main projects:
Corporate Fundraising
Corporate fundraising - such as United Way and the Arts & Science Council - is one of the more visible efforts conducted by Community Relations.
Community Investment Day
In 2002, Carolinas HealthCare System hosted its Community Investment Day in the Reid Park Neighborhood in west Charlotte. More than 650 participants helped improve resident lives by painting, landscaping, building a playground, picking up trash, and hosting a health fair. Because this event was so successful, it has become an annual event with a new location selected each year.
Holiday Outreach
Community Relations coordinates holiday giving activities so that employee efforts have the greatest impact.
Speakers Bureau
Community Relations coordinates the Speakers Bureau which arranges for physicians and other healthcare professionals to speak to business, professional, civic, school or church groups.
Tutoring
Community Relations coordinates tutoring opportunities between local schools and employees. This program not only helps the children with their educational needs, but it also helps them have a relationship with an adult. The standard tutor volunteer spends 45 minutes once a week with a student at school throughout the school year. In addition to tutors, this program also links volunteers with students who would benefit from e-mail or lunch buddies.
