On June 19, 2009, we held the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery awards banquet dinner at Belle Acres. This event was attended by many of our residents, fellows, faculty, and staff, along with their spouses. We recognized our graduating chief residents, Kent Ellington, MD, Chris Mann, MD and George "J" Trappey, MD.
Awards were given for the best scientific clinical paper, which went to Bryan Loeffler, MD, for his prospective study of donor site complications following iliac crest bone graft harvest. James Starman, MD, was awarded the best basic science paper for his paper on biomechanical analysis of different techniques of ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction of the elbow, with his co-authors Richard Peindl, MD, and James Fleischli, MD. The best resident teacher award was presented to Kent Ellington, MD, and the best faculty teacher award was presented to Glenn Gaston, MD.
An enjoyable evening of comradery and fellowship was had by all, as we celebrated the clinical and scholarly achievements of our residents and fellows. We look forward to the continuing contributions to our profession by the graduates of the program, and to welcoming a new class of residents and fellows in the coming academic year.
