Carolinas Medical Center responds to emergency needs with a variety of resources. As the only Level I Trauma Center serving the region, the F.H. "Sammy" Ross Trauma Center and the associated Hemby Pediatric Trauma Institute offer specially trained physicians and state-of-the-art facilities for adults and children. The emergency room at CMC boasts separate facilities for both adult and children, and is recognized as the first Certified Chest Pain Center in North Carolina and a Certified Primary Stroke Center.
Urgent Care services provide treatment for sprains, strains and minor illnesses.
MedCenter Air is the only air medical company in the Carolinas to offer all three modes of transport for patients: rotor wing, fixed wing and ground transport, including a dedicated neonatal transport unit.
Carolinas MED-1 is the only mobile emergency center in the United States, designed to respond to mass casualties incidents and other major disasters. Its maiden voyage was in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
