The Histology Core Facility is located within
the Cannon Research Center on the Carolinas Medical Center (CMC)
campus. This facility has trained certified
technician and specialized instrumentation for the following embedding and
sectioning needs:
- Paraffin processing and embedding
- Glycol methacrylate embedding and
sectioning
- Methyl methacrylate embedding and
sectioning.
A Polycut microtome is available for large
methacrylate blocks. Expertise is offered in special staining,
immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and cryo-sectioning
techniques.
Our microscopy lab has a Zeiss dual viewing
microscope with brightfield, polarized, and UV capabilities. Our digital imaging
center has a Nikon/Sony system that enables the user to capture and save digital
images of brightfield or UV-viewed specimens and to print out images with a
digital color printer.
