Outpatient Clinics

Carolinas Medical Center-Myers Park
All patients in the continuity clinic practice are seen at CMC-Myers Park, located less than a mile from CMC-Main. A shuttle rotates between the clinic and the hospital every 20 minutes, and physicians park in a covered lot with key-card entry. Subspecialty medicine and general medicine clinics are located on the third floor, as well as an overflow clinic for urgent work-in patients. CMC-Myers Park also houses clinics in Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Orthopaedic Surgery.

General Medicine Practice

During the three years, house officers attend continuity care clinic 1-2 half-days per week.

  • Faculty members will see all first-year residents' patients for the first six months.
  • Two attendings are always present for consultation and supervision.
  • Our faculty to resident ratio is always less than 1:3, and averages one attending for two residents
  • Full time ancillary staff at the clinic include: A Nutritionist/Dietitian, Diabetes educator, Asthma educator and 2 Social workers - one is dedicated to the Infectious Diseases clinic.

On average, interns will see three patients per clinic session, PGY-2 residents will see four to six patients, and PGY-3 residents may see up to six to eight patients per session.

  • The on-call team deals with urgent calls regarding the resident's hospital patients while they are in clinic.
  • There are no ambulatory clinic rotations during the CCU, MICU and ED rotations.

Subspecialty clinics
House officers on subspecialty rotations attend one to two subspecialty clinics per week. These clinics are designed for patients with specific problems, requiring the expertise of a medical subspecialist. Each
subspecialty clinic session lasts approximately four hours and is supervised by an attending subspecialist. There are no subspecialty clinic duties during the rotations on staff medicine, MICU and ED.
