including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and access to current
research protocols. Counseling and other support services are available to
assist women and their families in coping with cancer. The program also offers

significant and exciting events. Our staff of caring nurses and physicians
remain committed to treating you and your family with the finest medical care
and attention. Once you've experienced our maternity centers, you'll understand
why so many parents entrust their precious newborns to our experienced
care.
Mid-Life
Services About 55 million American women are beyond age 50 and the average woman
will spend one-third to one-half of her life in menopause. The physicians
and staff of Carolinas Medical Center and the primary care and OB/GYN practices
of Carolinas HealthCare System offer programs and services tailored to women in
this stage of life.
Reproductive Endocrinology and
Infertility
Hormones control
many body functions, including cells, growth, sexual development and the body's
response to stress or illness. The Center For Reproduction at The Women's
Institute provides treatment for reproductive endocrine disorders and
infertility diagnosis and management, as well as numerous other services.
Routine Care
and Prevention Your relationship with your
OB/GYN is an important one. Your OB/GYN cares for you through some of the
most important journeys of your life: puberty, childbirth and
menopause. Finding the right physician to guide you is essential. Our
physicians' practices are conveniently located throughout Mecklenburg, York and
Union counties.
Senior
Care As we age, our healthcare needs change. Carolinas
HealthCare System is here to help you reach your healthcare goals throughout the
transition, whether you want to improve your quality of life, maintain your
independence, or maximize your functional abilities through comprehensive,
primary and consultative care.
The Women's
Institute
The physicians and staff of Carolinas Medical
Center's Women's Institute specialize in diagnosing and managing
women's medical and reproductive conditions and other health concerns. At the
heart of The Women's Institute are its three centers of excellence: The Center
for Gynecology / Urogynecology specializes in gynecologic surgery and
urogynecology, the Center for Reproduction/Infertility provides evaluation,
diagnosis and management of infertility, and the Center for Prenatal Diagnosis
brings together experts in every area of prenatal care to help expectant mothers
whose pregnancies may pose problems.
Urology and Continence
Care Because aging affects hormone levels and muscle tone, stress incontinence
(leakage of urine while coughing, laughing or during exercise or lifting) can
become a problem for anyone in middle age. Carolinas HealthCare System's medical
professionals use urodynamic tests to pinpoint the cause of the problem and
develop solutions, which are often nonsurgical.
