The Acute Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease Programs
The Acute Stroke Program has received recognition for medical excellence by the National Stroke Association. Dedicated to helping stroke patients make successful recoveries, this program is the first in the region to offer a full spectrum of medical care, from emergency medical services to home rehabilitation.
The Cerebrovascular Disease Program diagnoses and treats acute stroke and vascular disease of the brain and spinal cord. Patients are evaluated to determine if their neurological symptoms are due to a limitation or interruption of blood flow to the brain.
The Brain Tumor Program
The program provides comprehensive medical care for adult and pediatric patients with primary benign tumors, malignant tumors or brain metastasis from another part of the body. The Brain Tumor Program offers some of the latest technical advancements in the treatment of brain tumors. The program also provides extensive support services to both patients and their families.
Carolinas Neuromuscular/ALS Center
The Neuroscience and Spine Institute is home to The Carolinas Neuromuscular/ALS-MDA Center, the Southeast's most comprehensive facility for the study and treatment of degenerative neuromuscular diseases. A multi-disciplinary team of specialists provides aggressive treatment plans, integrating research with patient care to find new solutions for the devastating neuromuscular disorders of ALS, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and Parkinson disease.
Carolinas Epilepsy Center
We believe that effective diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy requires a multidisciplinary team of specialists, sophisticated technology and a personalized approach to patient care.
Carolinas Center for Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders
The Carolinas Center for Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders is dedicated to helping patients with movement disorders maximize their independence and quality of life. The Center offers a comprehensive, team-oriented approach to patient care that includes physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and a dietitian all under the same roof. The Center's goal is to evaluate and treat patients with all movement disorders in a learning environment that promotes clinical and basic science research.
The Multiple Sclerosis Center
The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Center was North Carolina's first comprehensive treatment program for MS. The Center's goal is to prevent progression of the disease in MS patients and to contribute to research efforts designed to prevent, manage and cure MS.
Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery Program
We have developed a unique program for the treatment of children with brain and spinal cord disorders. Our team of experienced pediatric neurologists and pediatric neurosurgeons offers a level of expertise enabling us to treat the most complex pediatric neurology and spinal cases in the Southeast. This team of specialists handles all aspects of pediatric care, including family support and rehabilitation. Additionally, our participation in national research programs provides patients with early access to new treatment options.
The Post-Concussive Clinic
Every year, two million Americans suffer traumatic brain injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, falls or other events. The injuries that result may or may not involve a direct blow to the head. Mild traumatic brain injury, also known as a concussion, may have significant persistent symptoms commonly know as post-concussive syndrome. Most individuals improve without medical attention, but others recover more slowly, with symptoms that may have a negative impact on their professional and private lives.

Adult Spasticity Clinic - The Clinic utilizes the latest technological innovations to provide comprehensive treatment of spasticity. A team of professionals in the field of neurosurgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation therapy evaluates and designs an individualized care plan for each patient.
Pediatric Spasticity Clinic - Most of children suffering from spasticity have some type of cerebral palsy and face unique challenges relative to growth and development. The Pediatric Spasticity Clinic provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to surgical and non-surgical intervention for these children, and is dedicated to helping to improve their quality of life.
