Carolinas Medical Center conducts Medical Education Residency programs in 12 medical and dental specialties and serves as a training site for three more. CMC and the Carolinas College of Health Sciences and Mercy School of Nursing provide educational environments for more than 1,000 allied health professionals each year. Carolinas HealthCare System, in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, manages the Charlotte Area Health Education Center (AHEC). Charlotte AHEC offers continuing education and information resources for employees of Carolinas HealthCare System and other healthcare providers in an eight-county region. Carolinas College of Health Sciences (CCHS) offers programs in nursing, emergency medical sciences, radiologic technology, surgical technology, medical technology, as well as general and continuing education.
The Center for PreHospital Medicine is a 15-month regional EMT-paramedic program provided in affiliation with CCHS and the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency.
The Clinical Pastoral Education Program, accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, provides interfaith professional training for clergy and lay people.
The Mercy School of Nursing is a five-semester, 19-month program offering a diploma in nursing.
The Nurse Anesthesia Program is offered by Carolinas HealthCare System and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for registered nurses with a baccalaureate degree to obtain professional nurse anesthetist training.
CMC also offers the AHEC Library & Information Resource Center which provides a comprehensive collection of print and online resources. Special services for healthcare professionals include the AHEC Digital Library, literature searches, document delivery and interlibrary loan, clinical alerts, and training courses.
