Michael H. Thomason, MD, FACS is the Director of CMC's F.H. "Sammy" Ross, Jr. Center and Associate Chairman of the Department of General Surgery. Dr. Thomason completed his internship and residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and has earned additional qualifications in Surgical Critical Care. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Southeastern Surgical Congress, and a member of American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST). Dr. Thomason is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor and Course Director. He serves as a site visitor/reviewer for the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Verification Review Committee.

David G. Jacobs, MD, FACS is Associate Director of F.H. "Sammy" Ross, Jr. Center. Dr. Jacobs completed his internship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He completed a residency at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, as well as a fellowship in Pediatric Surgical Research at the Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto, and a fellowship in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) in Baltimore. Dr. Jacobs is board certified in general surgery and in surgical critical care. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), the EAST, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). He serves as Director of Trauma Performance Improvement, Associate Medical Director of MedCenter Air, and Chairman of the Violence Prevention Committee.

Ronald F. Sing, DO, FACS joined the attending staff of F.H. "Sammy" Ross, Jr. Center in 1995. Dr. Sing completed his residency at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, and a trauma and surgical care fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, with additional qualifications in Surgical Critical Care. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Sing is a member of numerous national and international organizations including the of American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), the EAST, the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the International Trauma Anesthesia Critical Care Society and the International Wound Ballistics Association. Dr. Sing is very active in research and publishing, including publication of the textbook, "The Initial Management of Injuries - an Evidence-Based Approach."

William S. Miles, MD, FACS joined the attending staff of F.H. "Sammy" Ross, Jr. Center 1995. He is currently the Director of Surgical Critical Care and the Medical Director of the Trauma Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Miles is also the Chairman of the Hospital Wide ICU Advisory Committee. He completed his internship and residency at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Columbia. He also completed a fellowship in Trauma/Surgical Critical Care at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville. Dr. Miles holds board certification in general surgery and surgical critical care, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Miles' interest and expertise in resident education earned him, "Attending of the Year" distinction in 1996 from the General Surgery residents. He has completed a Surgical Education Research Fellowship position through the Association of Surgical Education and the American College of Surgeons. His research in Blinded Interviewing of Surgical Resident Applicants won the "2002 Haemonetics Best Paper Award" at the Association of Surgical Education Meeting in Toronto.

Toan T. Huynh, MD, FACS has been an attending surgeon at the F.H. "Sammy" Ross, Jr. Center since 1998. Dr. Huynh completed internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of North Carolina. During his residency, Dr. Huynh obtained a NIH-NRSA Trauma Research Fellowship (T32-GM08450) and studied the mechanisms of Kupffer cell alterations after trauma and sepsis. He also completed a clinical fellowship in Trauma Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Huynh continues his studies at Carolina Medical Center on Kupffer cell alterations and hepatic microvascular dysfunction after inflammatory stress. He is active in professional organizations, including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Association for Academic Surgery, Shock Society, American College of Surgeons and Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

Ashley Britton Christmas, MD joined the attending staff of the F.H. “Sammy” Ross , Jr. Trauma Center in 2006.  Dr. Christmas completed his residency as well as his Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Christmas is board certified in general surgery, and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Christmas is also very active in clinical and outcomes research.

Lynnette M. Schiffern, MD joined the attending staff of the F.H. “Sammy” Ross , Jr. Trauma Center in 2006. Dr. Schiffern completed her residency as well as her Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Utah. Dr. Schiffern holds board certification in general surgery, surgical critical care, and perioperative transesophageal echocardiography.  She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Susan L. Evans, MD joined the attending staff of the F.H. “Sammy” Ross , Jr. Trauma Center in 2006. Dr. Evans completed her residency at the University of Florida , Jacksonville and Fellowship in Trauma & Surgical Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Evans holds board certification in general surgery and surgical critical care, and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
