CHS to Open Region's First Pediatric Urgent Care Center
July 1, 2010

The region’s first urgent care center devoted solely to children will open on July 7th in the Cotswold area of Charlotte. Carolinas HealthCare Children’s Urgent Care will be staffed by a board-certified pediatrician who can provide immediate care to a child 18 years of age and under when his or her pediatrician is unavailable. Carolinas HealthCare Children’s Urgent Care is affiliated with Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH).

The complete clinical staff includes two pediatricians, two nurses and two radiology and laboratory technicians. The facility will be open seven days a week from noon until midnight each day.

The medical services at Carolinas HealthCare Children’s Urgent Care include:

• General pediatric illnesses, including sore throats, ear aches, bronchitis, colds, flu, fever and stomach upset
• Sprains, strains and fracture care
• Lacerations and burns
• Physicals for school, sports and camp
• Assistance in selecting a pediatrician

Michelle Corbier, MD and Peter Rice, MD are the two pediatricians who will be seeing patients at the facility. Dr. Corbier completed her pediatric residency in June 1997 and has been practicing pediatric medicine for thirteen years. She became board certified in pediatrics in 2001. Dr. Rice completed his pediatric residency in June 2006 at Carolinas Medical Center. Prior to becoming a pediatrician, Dr. Rice was board certified in family medicine and practiced for six years.

“Sudden illness, accidents and injuries often happen at inconvenient times, and our facility is a place where parents can bring their children when their pediatrician is not available to treat those minor illnesses or injuries,” said Dr. Rice. “We can also help parents find a permanent pediatrician for their families and introduce them to all of the services offered by Carolinas HealthCare and Levine Children’s Hospital.”

Carolinas HealthCare Children’s Urgent Care will be located at 231 S. Sharon Amity Road across from Cotswold Village Shops in what used to be Carolinas HealthCare Urgent Care- Cotswold, an adult urgent care facility.
