For the seventh year in a row, Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) has been ranked as one of the nation’s Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems. Also, for the first time, CHS is one of only 25 health systems in the United States and the only one in the Carolinas to earn the additional recognition of Most Wireless.
AnMed Health, a South Carolina affiliate of Carolinas HealthCare, also received Most Wired recognition.
Results are based on the national Hospitals and Health Networks (H&HN) Benchmarking Study where hospitals report on their information technology adoption, implementation and use in the focus areas of infrastructure, business and administrative systems, clinical quality and safety systems, and use throughout the care continuum of hospitals, physician practices and other patient care locations.
“It takes a committed team of many to achieve this recognition and Carolinas HealthCare System is fortunate to have the dedication of our physician partners and the engagement of our employees,” said Craig Richardville, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer.
“Putting the patient first provides the direction and paves the way for our success in the areas of patient safety, quality, service excellence and efficiency through the use of information technology.” Richardville pointed to several current initiatives that are advancing CHS’s “patient first” philosophy:
- Continuing the electronic medical record journey for patient safety and quality
- Health Information Exchange for private and secure access to health information
- Increasing adoption and optimization of our information infrastructure
Award winners will be recognized for their innovative use of information technology at the 2010 Annual Health Forum/AHA Leadership summit from July 22-24 in San Diego, Calif.
